Whene'er distinction lights on some unworthy head,Then deeds of haughty insolence are bred

எளிய பொருள்

சிறப்பு நிலையும் தனக்கு பொருந்தாத சீரற்ற கீழ் மக்களிடம் ஏற்பட்டால், வரம்பு மீறிய செயலை உடையதாகும்.

Even nobility of birth, wealth and learning, if in (the possession of) the base, will (only) produce everincreasing pride.
