பதிமருண்டு பைதல் உழக்கும் மதிமருண்டுமாலை படர்தரும் போழ்து.

If evening's shades, that darken all my soul, extend;From this afflicted town will would of grief ascend

எளிய பொருள்

அறிவு மயங்கும்படியாக மாலைப்பொழுது வந்து படரும்போது, இந்த ஊரும் மயங்கி என்னைப் போல் துன்பத்தால் வருந்தும்.

When night comes on confusing (everyone’s) mind, the (whole) town will lose its sense and be plunged in sorrow.
