தொல்வரவும் தோலும் கெடுக்கும் தொகையாகநல்குரவு என்னும் நசை.

Importunate desire, which poverty men name,Destroys both old descent and goodly fame

எளிய பொருள்

வறுமை என்று சொல்லப்படும் ஆசைநிலை ஒருவனைப் பற்றினால், அவனுடைய பழைமையானக் குடிப் பண்பையும் புகழையும் ஒரு சேரக் கெடுக்கும்.

Hankering poverty destroys at once the greatness of (one’s) ancient descent and (the dignity of one’s) speech.
